Windstorm Impacts on Forest-Related Socio-Ecological Systems: An Analysis from a Socio-Economic and Institutional Perspective

چکیده
Windstorms are considered among the most impacting natural events for European forests and related Socio-Ecological Systems (SES). Given that their intensity frequency increasing, an in-depth understanding of impacts is crucial to mitigate risks potential negative effects. However, so far, scientific research on windstorm has mainly focused environmental dimensions, while socio-economic institutional ones rarely taken into consideration. Our analysis aims at enriching current knowledge forest SES by providing overview state-of-the-art academic investigations dimensions. Overall, 46 papers were reviewed identify recurrent post-windstorm dynamics drivers influence resilience adaptation socio-economic, governance dimensions SES. Results show windstorms concentrates forest-related stakeholders sectors, paying little attention broader social, cultural contribute resilience. Further, cascade effects linking environmental, social poorly analyzed. This restricted focus could lead incomplete shaping adaptability windstorms, affecting long-term sustainable recovery from extreme events. To correctly frame effective, intersectoral coordinated strategies gaining a deeper human–environment interactions needed, as well acknowledging positive causal relationships in improving

At the same time, preservation of biodiversity, stopping deforestation and...
متن کاملA Neurobiological Perspective on Socio-Technical Systems
The Socio-Technical Systems approach assumes that an organizational work system can be seen as two independent but tightly correlated systems – a technical one and a social one. Together, these systems determine the performance of the work system. However, in spite of decades of research efforts, it is far from clear how to define these systems. Without a firm basis, analytical and constructive...

Executive Summary This Report This report is motivated by the conclusions of EU Council of Environment Ministers of December 4, 2008, asking the European Commission to explore the possibility to consider other factors beyond health and environmental risks, i.e. " socioeconomic benefits and risks and agronomic sustainability " (all covered by the term socioeconomic in this report) in GMO market ...
متن کاملCluster Analysis to Understand Socio-ecological Systems: a Guideline
In coupled human-environment systems where well established and proven general theories are often lacking cluster analysis provides the possibility to discover regularities – a first step in empirically based theory building. The aim of this report is to share the experiences and knowledge on cluster analysis we gained in several applications in this realm helping to avoid typical problems and ...
